“With an installation consisting of photos and beamers, Renée van Trier surprises the viewer with the recognition of more and more changing identities from our mechanized and artificial reality. The protagonist shows an ongoing conflict between the character and the artificial identity, which we think we know from movies and commercials.
She ridicules all presuppositions about both the character itself and the artificial and dressed up ego identity, by staging both, fully recognizable, as a pseudo act of herself.
With these performances, she gives a hilarious twist to the meaning of the term “appropriation”. She attacks the discourse about the Self.
The transformations are being performed as a perfect fast-change trick, with an infectious kick. The viewer is left behind with a smile and undermined insights about art and reality, and the from now doubted ideas about psychologies of identity and sexuality.”
